At SWS our faculty teaches students to be open minded. Not only about what dance styles they learn but acting and vocal as well. There are many different avenues to take in the entertainment industry and the program our students are a part of gives them an edge at competition or when auditioning. The more well rounded the education the better the performer.
Open minds go a long way in the classroom. Students who keep their minds open and allow instructors to give personal corrections without getting upset make more progress than students who take these corrections personally. It is so important that parents and faculty work together to explain being told you are doing something wrong is a GOOD thing.
We have actually had students switch over from other schools get very frustrated and upset that they have never been told certain corrections before in their previous training. Phrases like "I could have been so much better right now." and "Why wasn't I told this before?" we hear all too often from newer students making the switch. For these students the faculty tell them not to look back and think of what could have been .. but to look forward to what will be with a little hard work.
Talk to your dancer today make sure they keep their minds open so they can make the progress their instructors know they are capable of!

As the parent of a new SWS student who had previously always had adjucators comments such as "you have so much potential" and "you are a diamond in the rough" I can honestly tell you Mandy that this year you, Sasha, Tamara and Almitra as well as all your assistant teachers have polished my rough little diamond and she now truly does STEP WITH STYLE! Looking forward to an amazing competition season this year - thank you for all your hard work!

ReplyDeleteThis will be my daughters second year dancing with Step With Style and coming from a parent who really knows nothing when it comes to dance and its different genre techniques ... I can honestly tell you that watching my daughter dance 3 years ago (which was always a joy) to now...the difference is outstanding...she has learned more in the two years with Step With Style than she did in the 5 years dancing where she was previous....the staff is GREAT!! The parents are GREAT!!! The kids are GREAT!!!! We couldn't be happier with where we are now...competitions are always a thrill to watch and the team spirit experienced here makes Step With Style a true dance family...HOW DO YOU STEP?????
